Capturing the persona of the chef, his process, the food he creates and the atmosphere of those enjoying it involves drawing on experience from nearly every other category in photography.
With multiple assistants, a full complement of lighting, and even enjoyment of his subject matter once its time in the light has come to a close (yum!), Brian Briggs’ work for chefs and their fine food earns central features in magazines, marketing materials, and advertising campaigns.
Storyteller Series: Chez Benoit
When French Chef Benoit Fliou broke ground on his first state-side restaurant, he asked Brian to partner with him in the visual side of this story. Learning about Benoit’s pedigree as a chef in a Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris, his past escapades as the frontman of a French ACDC cover band in the 80s, and the love story that brought him across an ocean to marry his American wife, Christi, Brian began to visualize the blend of elegance and rock n roll that characterized Benoit and his exciting venture. At right, you’ll see some BTS photos of Brian directing Benoit, crafting light to photograph the signature dishes, and some of the final shots that hit the bullseye of what Brian and Benoit had set as their goal.
